My hike to the top of
Diamond Head

![]() |
Here I am about half way up Diamond Head, a 760-ft volcanic crater. |

The total hike up to the top of Diamond Head is about three-quarters of a mile. |
| To reach the top, first you start off on a nicely paved trail (not pictured), then there is the rocky trail that is slippery if it rains (like it had done before I got to Diamond Head). |

After hiking up the rocky trail, you reach the stairs....99 very steep cement stairs (and there is no place to rest) |
At the top of the stairs, you will enter a dark tunnel (you don't have to bring a flashlight anymore because it is sort-of lit by these dim lights at the bottom of the rail). After you walk through the tunnel you have to climb a set of spiral stairs..... | |
Then when you think you are almost there and you feel like you are about pass out, you have to duck and climb up these last two steps… not too challenging you think, HA!!! Try it with a backpack strapped to your back that gets caught when you are trying to climb out of there, lol…..

| Not yet at the top but the views are great so far! The back side of Diamond Head has some of the pretty large houses. | |
If you look really close to the left you can see the Royal Hawaiian Hotel (the Pink Palace) |
and finally.... at the top of Diamond Head, facing Waikiki Beach |
